The founder of Shim Soo Kwan's pottery who Later Shim Soo Kwan the first was forced to come to Japan when Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Korea in 1592-93 and 1597-98. Consequently the kiln of Shim Soo Kwan has about 400 years of history. It is direct descent from the first to the present 15th.
Two kinds of pottery clay are used in Satsuma ware - black Satsuma and white Satsuma. He has a diversity of techniques.
